Anglia Ruskin University is one of the most prestigious universities in East Anglia, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1858 by John Ruskin as the Cambridge School of Art. Over time, the Essex Institute of Higher Education merged with the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology to form Anglia Polytechnic University. In 1992, it was renamed Anglia Polytechnic University, and in 2005, it became Anglia Ruskin University.

In recent Research Assessment Exercises (RAE) by the UK government, more than four research areas of the university ranked in the top 4 (among modern universities), and eight of its research areas were assessed as being world-leading. Additionally, ARU is recognized as "world-leading" in 12 academic fields according to the Research Excellence Framework.
